QUAN (@donferquan)-WARRIOR’Z WAY

From director Vlad Yudin and the producers of Bowling for Columbine and Fahrenheit 9/11 comes “The Hurt Business: A Deeper Look into MMA,’ available now via iTunes and Netflix. Narrated by Academy Award® winner Kevin Costner, the film follows the daily lives of the sport’s biggest stars including UFC Light-Heavyweight Champion Jon “Bones” Jones, former UFC Light-Heavyweight Champion Rashad “Suga” Evans and female phenomena Ronda Rousey for a deeper look into what life is really like inside the brutal world of mixed martial arts. From the coliseums of ancient Greece to modern day venues such as the MGM Grand in Las Vegasto, The Hurt Business provides the history and context for how this sport went from being shunned as “barbaric” to becoming one of the most popular sports franchises of today. Themes of injury, both mental and physical, are explored and the question is raised: is it worth it to sacrifice one’s mind and body for sport?

Best known for his 2005 hit with Nas, “Just A Moment,” rapper, singer/songwriter, self-taught multi-instrumentalist and producer, Quan (aka Don Ferquan) has been championed by his hometown of Newport “Bad News,” VA and hip hop heads around the country. Since his run with Nas, Quan has released various loose singles, landed placement of his song Amerikka’s Pie on season five of the HBO hit show The Wire, and guest-featured on Asher Roth‘s hit “Summer Time,” As of late, the former signee of Nas’ Ill Will Records has been busy putting the finishing touches on his forthcoming album Point Of No Return and penning his memoir The Thirst, which details his current relationship with Nas and 50 Cent, facing life imprisonment at 16 years old, parenthood, the death of his son, and more.
